Claire Gogolen

Senior Manager, Mathematics Teaching and Teacher Learning Program, Harvard University

As a project manager, Claire oversees MQI Coaching, a program that aims to help mathematics teachers improve their instruction. MQI Coaching was developed as part of an NSF-funded research study, and after promising early research findings it has expanded into a service offered to schools and districts. Additionally, Claire has worked across a variety of Heather Hill’s research projects, and her work has included overseeing revisions to the MQI observation instrument; writing and editing training materials for the MQI; writing and editing items for the updated MKT (mathematical knowledge for teaching) instrument; adapting the MQI for use in teacher professional development; and scanning and scoring videotapes of instruction for the purpose of instrument revision. Prior to joining CEPR, she worked as a research assistant for Jon Star’s contrasting cases project, studying the use of comparison in algebra instruction. Claire holds a B.A. in neuroscience from Middlebury College and an Ed.M. in mind, brain, and education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
